The town of Sunapee, the Lake and Mount Sunapee share the name which means Goose Lake in the Algonquian language. The lake is a nesting area for wild geese. Formerly an industrial region, today Sunapee is a major tourist area with skiing in the winter and summer activities at the Lake. Lake Sunapee is home to 3 working lighthouses the only lake in New Hampshire that has them. One other claim to fame is the former home of Steve Tyler’s Aerosmith rock band.
